What does this fault code mean?
The fault code refers to shift solenoid S2 in the transmission, even though it is named solenoid B. The transmission control module (TCM) has found that no signal reaches the circuit to S2 while the solenoid is switched off. The fault is general and does not say more precisely what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the control signal cable
- The solenoid is not working
- The signal cable is short-circuited to voltage
- Internal fault inside the control module (TCM) of the gearbox
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and drive the car to see if it returns
- 2With a diagnostic tool: activate solenoid S2 and check that its status switches between OFF and ON. If it does not switch, the fault is likely permanent
- 3Have a workshop open the transmission control system and check the cable to solenoid S2 for an open circuit and a short-circuit to voltage, and the connectors for contact resistance
- 4Have a workshop check the solenoid and the oil level
- 5Have a workshop replace the mechatronic unit if the wiring shows no fault, as the fault is then in the mechatronic unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp and check engine light on
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Harsh or jerky gear changes, or gear changes missing
- No automatic gear change
- Gear changes harsh or jerky on both upshifts and downshifts
