What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named short-circuit to ground, it applies when the feed voltage that supplies the gear selector (GSM) is too low. The gear selector handles, among other things, the shift lock, manual shifting and the display of the selected gear, and it communicates with the transmission control module over a LIN network. The fault is general and does not say more precisely what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- The power supply cable is short-circuited to ground
- The power supply cable has an open circuit
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged gear selector module (GSM)
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and drive the car to see if it returns
- 2Check the gear selector: with the brake pressed, move it to M and then toward + and -. The selected gear should update in the instrument display
- 3Have a workshop check the connector and power cable to the gear selector for short-circuit to ground, open circuit and contact resistance
- 4Have a workshop replace the gear selector control module if it is damaged
