What does this fault code mean?
The fault code concerns the signal for the engine's current torque, which the engine control module (ECM) sends over the CAN network to the transmission control module. The gearbox uses the signal to set shift points and adjust system pressure. The fault is general and does not say more precisely what type of fault it is; the cause may lie in another control module.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Sporadic open or shorted CAN wire between the engine control module and the transmission control module
- Internal fault inside the engine controller (ECM)
- Internal fault inside the control module (TCM) of the gearbox
What you can do
- 1Read the codes stored in the CEM and in the ECM, and fix those first
- 2Do not clear this code until the fault codes in the CEM and the engine control module have been fixed and cleared
- 3If no other fault codes are present, have a workshop check the CAN wiring between the engine control module and the transmission control module for open circuits and short-circuits
- 4Have a workshop diagnose the engine control module, as this code points to a fault there
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and text message in the display, and the general warning lamp lit
- Check engine light lit or behaving abnormally
- Gear changes missing, harsh or jerky, or occurring too early, too late or too often
- Engine stalls when a gear is engaged or when slowing down
- The car lacks power, and lockup does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The transmission is controlled by an auxiliary program
- If the torque signal on HS-CAN 1 is also faulty, the control module uses a basic value for the signal, and adaptation is blocked
- Slip lock-up and automatic engine start/stop are switched off
