What does this fault code mean?
Speed sensor B on the intermediate shaft gives the transmission control module (TCM) the speed for the even gears. The signal is too high and unreasonable for the gear that is selected. The control module uses the value during gear changes and to calculate the vehicle speed, so the fault can affect the gear changes.

- Faulty sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the speed for the even gears in live data during a road test and see whether the value changes unreasonably when the gear is engaged
- 3If the fault returns, have a workshop read the codes for the other speed sensors, as the fault may lie in the control module rather than the sensor
- 4Have a workshop decide whether the sensor needs replacing, or whether the control module needs replacing and programming
