What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has registered an incorrect signal from the second Hall sensor in the gear selector position sensor, which tells the control module which position the selector is in. Because the position is used to choose a gear, gear changes can be affected. The cause may be a misadjusted selector cable or an internal fault in the control module.
Possible causes
- Misadjusted gear position sensor
- Fault inside the TCM itself
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: move the selector through all positions and check in live data that the selected position follows correctly
- 3Have a workshop check that the selector cable is correctly adjusted, and adjust it if needed
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop calibrate the position sensor and, if the code is still present, replace the transmission control module

- The environmental lamp comes on
- The engine does not start
- Yellow symbol and text message in the display
- No automatic gear changes
- No movement forward or in reverse with a gear selected
