What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has lost contact with the high-speed network. CAN communication is blocked by a serious disturbance on the bus, and for as long as this lasts the gearbox control module cannot be communicated with.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Contact resistance or corrosion in connectors and joints
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Start by clearing up the stored faults in the CEM and ECM first
- 2Check connectors and wiring to the gearbox control module for looseness, corrosion and damage
- 3Have a workshop measure the CAN network, as this needs diagnostic equipment
- 4Do not replace the central electronic module (CEM) for this code unless the workshop has found an internal fault there
- 5Clear the code only once the other codes have been fixed and check that it is not set again

- Check engine lamp lit
- The car performs poorly and lacks power when pulling away from standstill
- Idle speed is high and unstable
- The automatic gearbox shifts harshly or jerkily
What the fault can affect2
- The transmission control module tries to restore communication once a minute
- The control module tries to communicate again when the power is switched on
