What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has a configuration ID that does not match the one the central electronic module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. Either the module was not built for this car, or the wrong software has been loaded. The gearbox may shift incorrectly or not at all.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID, for example if the module is second-hand from another car and has different software or hardware
- Incorrect software in the transmission control module (TCM)
- Incorrect signal configuration from the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether the gearbox control module or the central electronic module has been replaced, and whether the new module is intended for this specific car
- 2Have a workshop program the gearbox control module with the correct and latest software
- 3If the fault remains after the software is loaded, the workshop needs to replace the gearbox mechatronic unit
- 4Clear the code only once the fault has been fixed, and check that it does not return
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
- The automatic gearbox does not shift automatically
- The car does not move forwards or backwards with a gear selected
- The automatic gearbox shifts too early, too late or too often, and shifts harshly or jerkily
- The car performs poorly and lacks power
What the fault can affect3
- The control module shuts itself off from the bus (bus-off)
- The gearbox may go into a limp-home programme with limited function
- The control module still responds to diagnostics
