What does this fault code mean?
The tow hitch control module (TRM) has a configuration ID that does not match the one the central electronic module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network, or the communication between them has been broken. The cause may be that the module is not intended for this particular car.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, for example if the module is second-hand and has different software or hardware
- Break in the CAN wiring linking the tow hitch module with the CEM
What you can do
- 1Check whether the tow hitch control module is second-hand or has been replaced; if so, the workshop needs to load the correct software for the car
- 2Check the connectors and wiring of the CAN network linking the tow hitch module with the CEM for breaks, looseness and damage
- 3Have a workshop reprogram the tow hitch control module with the latest software
- 4Clear the code only once the fault has been fixed, and check that it does not return
Symptoms you may notice2
- Trailer lamps do not work as they should
- Trailer lighting does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The module stops sending messages on the CAN network
- The module's functions stop working
- The module still responds to diagnostic commands, but normal CAN communication does not work
