Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
The tow hitch control module (TRM) has registered a general fault on MS-CAN, the medium-speed bus in the car. The code gives no specific fault type, only that communication on the bus is disturbed. The trailer lamps may then behave incorrectly.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Damaged tow hitch control module (TRM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the other control modules and deal with them first, as CAN faults often set several codes at once
- 2Check the connectors and wiring in the CAN network for looseness, corrosion and damage
- 3Check that the battery terminals are tight and that the battery is charged
- 4Have a workshop measure the resistance of the MS-CAN network, as this needs diagnostic equipment
- 5Clear the code only once the fault has been fixed, and check that it does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- The trailer lamps do not work as they should
What the fault can affect3
- The control module shuts itself off from the bus (bus-off)
- The control module stays inactive until its power is cut
- The control module tries to communicate again when the power is switched back on
