System
Upper Electronic Module (UEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
On the XC90 the code means a fault has been detected in the rear movement sensor (MMS) or in the interior motion sensor (IMS, from model year 2012 onwards). The sensor may need replacing.
Possible causes
- Poor contact on the sensor side and/or on the control module side
- Open circuit in the sensor communication cable
- A short to supply voltage on the sensor's communication cable
- Defective sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off the code, clear it and check whether it returns.
- 2Look for loose connectors and oxidation at the sensor and at the control module connector.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the communication cable has no contact with voltage and is not broken.
- 4Check in particular the connector in the cable harness between the control module and the sensor.
- 5If no fault is found, have a workshop replace the sensor.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The alarm does not respond to the movement sensor
