Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named reading lamp, it applies to the front left reading lamp. The upper electronic module (UEM) registers a faulty signal from the lamp, which is caused either by the switch being jammed in the pressed position or by the signal wire being short-circuited to voltage. The interior lighting then does not work.
Possible causes
- The front left reading lamp's switch is jammed in the pressed position
- The signal wire to the front left reading lamp is short-circuited to voltage
What you can do
- 1Check whether the button for the front left reading lamp is stuck in the pressed position.
- 2Read off the code, clear it and check whether it returns.
- 3With a multimeter you can check that the wire between the upper electronic module and the roof lamp has no contact with battery voltage.
- 4If a fault is found in the wire, replace it.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the roof lamp unit and replace it if needed.
