VOLVO
UEM-0082 - Rain sensor. Signal too high
System
Upper Electronic Module (UEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The upper electronic module (UEM) regularly tests the communication with the rain sensor. The code is set when the signal wire to the sensor is shorted to voltage. It is not set while UEM-0081 is already stored. A faulty rain sensor may also be the cause.
Possible causes
- The rain sensor's signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Faulty rain sensor
What you can do
- 1Put the wiper stalk in position 0 and check the function in that position.
- 2With a multimeter you can check that the signal wire to the rain sensor has no contact with battery voltage.
- 3Look for pinched or chafed spots on the two wires to the rain sensor.
- 4Check that the connectors at the rain sensor and the control module are not corroded.
- 5If no other fault is found, have a workshop replace the rain sensor.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The rain sensor does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The windshield wipers run intermittently
- The windshield wipers may run at high speed
