System

Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rain sensor carries out its own self-test, which includes checking how light is reflected off the windshield. The code is set when the sensor finds that it is not working as intended. On earlier model years the code can be set by frost on the glass during the check, and in that case replacing parts does not help. Start with fault tracing.
Possible causes
- Defective rain sensor
- The rain sensor is loose on the windshield
- Crack in the windshield at the rain sensor
- Stone chip in the windshield at the rain sensor
- Frost on the windshield during the check
What you can do
- 1Check that the rain sensor is firmly fixed to the glass and that the inner face of the windshield is clean.
- 2Look for stone chips or cracks in the glass where the rain sensor sits.
- 3If there has been frost on the glass, wait until it has cleared, clear the code and check whether it returns.
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the rain sensor.
Symptoms you may notice1

What the fault can affect2
- The windshield wipers run intermittently
- The windshield wipers may run at high speed
