GENERATION 1 · 1995–2006
EWS Platform
Applicable Models: BMW 3-serie (E36 / E46) · BMW 5-serie (E39) · BMW 7-serie (E38) · BMW X5 (E53 tidig) · BMW Z3 (E36/7) / Z8 · Range Rover L322 / Rover 75
Common Symptoms:
- Transponder ring antenna around ignition barrel degrades
- Internal starter relay contacts burn out on circuit board
- No crank / no start condition (rolling code desync between EWS and DME/DDE on dead battery)Synchronization error
Workshop tip for sync faults: Connect diagnostic scanner (ISTA, Autel, Launch) > navigate to DME/DDE > Service Functions > Immobilizer / EWS-DME Alignment. Complete the routine, switch ignition off for 15 seconds, and test-start. If alignment fails, internal EEPROM data is corrupted and cloning is required.
GENERATION 2 · 2001–2007
CAS 1 & CAS 2

Common Symptoms:
- Electronic key slot mechanism binds or refuses to eject fob
- Terminal 15/R ignition relays fail to engage
- No crank / no start condition (rolling code desync between CAS and DME/DDE after battery drain)Synchronization error

Common Symptoms:
- Total flash corruption in microprocessor after interrupted OBD programming
- Immobilizer active – ignition engages but no crank (DTC 2F44 / 4A63 "EWS tampering / desync")Synchronization error

Workshop tip: For locked steering columns (red ELV icon / A10A), we reset internal ELV counters and clone data 1:1 onto your donor module without replacing the steering column.

CAS 4 & CAS 4+

Common Symptoms:
- Communication dropouts on FlexRay bus to engine and transmission
- Keyless Go entry or ignition fails to detect key fobWarning: Potentially corrupt software
Workshop tip: Voltage drops often corrupt CAS4+ start parameters. Bench cloning transfers intact Crypto-ISN and key tables. If original software is permanently corrupted, it cannot be repaired and donor unit must be reset/coded by dealer.

Workshop tip: Voltage drops often corrupt CAS4+ start parameters. Bench cloning transfers intact Crypto-ISN and key tables. If original software is permanently corrupted, it cannot be repaired and donor unit must be reset/coded by dealer.

- Water damage and PCB corrosion from passenger cowl drain or sunroof leaks
- Integrated relays for central locking, lighting, or fuel pump fail
- Immobilizer lock out and key recognition failure after bad coding or power surgesWarning: Potentially corrupt software

How the Process Works

Source a healthy used donor unit (e.g. from an auto recycler) and ship both your faulty BMW CAS and the donor unit to our workshop.
