Technical Description
P0230 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an electrical abnormality in the fuel pump relay control circuit (primary circuit). The pulse width modulated (PWM) or constant signal sent to the relay coil is monitored for proper voltage levels. If the ECM commands the fuel pump 'on' but detects an incorrect voltage state (open circuit, short to ground, or short to power), the code is stored. This disruption prevents the low-pressure fuel pump from operating correctly, impacting fuel delivery to the injection system.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel pump relay (internal coil failure)
Wiring issues (chafed insulation or corrosion in connectors)
Tripped inertia switch (fuel cut-off switch)
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) driver circuit

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
