P02A1 - Cylinder 2 – Fuel Trim at Max Limit

Technical Description
The P02A1 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the fuel trim for cylinder 2 has reached its maximum enrichment limit. The ECU is attempting to compensate for an excessively lean condition by increasing the fuel injector pulse width, but the correction has hit its calibrated ceiling. This cylinder-specific code suggests an issue localized to cylinder 2, such as a restricted injector, an air leak near that cylinder's intake port, or a mechanical issue affecting combustion efficiency, monitored via crankshaft speed fluctuations or O2 sensor feedback.
Possible Causes
Clogged or faulty fuel injector (Cylinder 2)
Vacuum/air leak at the intake manifold near cylinder 2
Faulty spark plug or ignition coil (causing incomplete combustion interpreted as lean)
Internal engine mechanical issue (e.g., leaking valve or low compression on cyl 2)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
