Technical Description
The P02AA code is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) reaches its maximum adaptive limit for fuel compensation on cylinder number 5. The ECU monitors individual cylinder power balance and oxygen sensor feedback; if it detects a lean condition on cylinder 5, it increases the injector pulse width to add more fuel. When the adjustment hits the upper calibrate limit (typically +25-30%), P02AA is triggered. This indicates that the ECU can no longer compensate for the underlying mechanical or electrical fault affecting that specific cylinder.
Possible Causes
Clogged or faulty fuel injector on cylinder 5
Vacuum leak or intake manifold gasket leak specific to cylinder 5 path
High resistance in the wiring harness or connector for injector 5
Mechanical engine issues such as low compression or worn camshaft lobe on cylinder 5

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
