Technical Description
P02D7 is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) reaches the maximum adaptation limit for the fuel injector on cylinder 6. The ECU monitors crankshaft acceleration to determine the contribution of each cylinder. If the ECU must increase the injector pulse width beyond a calibrated threshold to achieve the desired engine performance or emissions stability, it triggers this code. This is usually indicative of an injector that is leaning out due to internal clogging, wear, or an air leak affecting that specific cylinder's volumetric efficiency.
Possible Causes
Faulty or clogged fuel injector for cylinder 6
Intake manifold air leak or vacuum leak affecting cylinder 6 only
Incorrect injector coding (IMA/IQA code) in the ECU
Internal engine mechanical fault (e.g., low compression or valve issues)
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- 2. 3. 4. 5. Replace fuel injector if necessary and reset adaptation values using an OEM-capable scan tool.
Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
