Technical Description
P0100 is a generic OBD-II code indicating the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a malfunction in the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor circuit 'A'. The MAF sensor converts the amount of air entering the engine into a voltage or frequency signal. If the signal voltage remains at 0V, stays constant regardless of engine load, or exhibits an implausible duty cycle, the ECU triggers this code. This disruption prevents the ECU from accurately calculating fuel injection timing and ignition performance, often causing the vehicle to enter into a 'fail-safe' or Limp Home mode.
Possible Causes
Defective Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor internal failure
Damaged wiring harness or corroded connector pins at the sensor
Air leak after the sensor (vacuum leak) or a severely clogged air filter
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) or a poor chassis ground connection

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
