Technical Description
P0104 means the Powertrain Control Module (PCM/ECU) detects an erratic or intermittent signal from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor circuit. This code is set when the MAF signal voltage or frequency fluctuates outside of established parameters for a specific duration. This instability prevents accurate fuel trim calculations. The system may default to using 'speed density' (MAP sensor) for fueling, often resulting in a Limp-Home mode and potentially affecting transmission shift logic due to corrupted torque calculation data on the CAN bus.
Possible Causes
Loose connection or corrosion in the MAF sensor connector
Damaged wiring harness (frayed or broken wires)
Faulty MAF sensor (internal electrical failure)
Dirty air filter or turbulence caused by loose intake boots
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
