Technical Description
P0183 is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects a voltage signal from the Fuel Temperature Sensor (FTS) that is higher than the calibrated limit (typically above 4.8V). The sensor is an NTC thermistor where resistance decreases as temperature increases. A 'High Input' reading usually points towards an open circuit or a sensor that has failed internally. The ECU utilizes fuel temperature data to calculate fuel density and adjust fuel trim/timing accordingly to maintain emissions and performance standards.
Possible Causes
Open circuit in the wiring or corrosion in the sensor connector
Faulty fuel temperature sensor (internal open circuit)
Poor ground connection in the sensor circuit
Internal Engine Control Unit (ECU) fault

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
