Technical Description
The P0446 code is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an electrical or mechanical fault in the EVAP system vent control circuit. The vent valve's role is to allow fresh air into the charcoal canister during the purge cycle and to seal the system during leak tests. The ECU monitors the circuit's amperage or looks for specific pressure changes via the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor. If the expected pressure changes do not occur when the vent valve is commanded on/off, the code is stored. This typically points to a restricted vent path, a faulty solenoid, or a wiring issue.
Possible Causes
Faulty EVAP vent control solenoid (mechanical stick or electrical open)
Clogged vent filter or debris/spider webs in the vent hose VIDA.
Damaged wiring or corroded connectors at the solenoid
Faulty Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor providing incorrect readings to the ECU

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
