P2006 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

Related:Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1), Wiring harness and connectors, Control Module (ECM/PCM)

    System

    Powertrain (Engine & Gearbox)

    Technical Description

The control module has detected a fault in the Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1) (P2006). Affects cylinder bank 1 (bank 1 containing cylinder 1, firewall/right side).

    Oscilloscope Waveform Analysis

    100 ms/div, 1 V/div
Capture the Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1) signal through a slow sweep of its operating range. The trace must be smooth with no dropouts to 0 V or 5 V.

    Possible Causes

    1

Mechanical sticking or debris/carbon contamination jamming Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

    2

Bank 1 specific:Inspect wiring harness to cylinder bank 1 (firewall/right bank, exposed to exhaust manifold heat).

    3

Chafed or pinched wiring harness along the signal path to Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

    4

Poor ground connection or excessive voltage drop (> 0.1 V) at the ground point for Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

    5

Defective internal output driver or reference circuit in the control module for Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

    Symptoms

    4
Valve or flap mechanism remains mechanically stuck in the closed position
    Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated
    Possible drivability or power reduction
Risk of failing an emissions inspection

    Recommended Solution

    1

Cross-swap the component on Bank 1 with Bank 2 to rule out mechanical oil passages and internal timing wear.

    2

Command the actuator via scan-tool output tests to determine if the solenoid can overcome the return spring.

    3

Verify loaded supply voltage and harness terminal pins at Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1).

    4

Check circuit continuity and ground-side voltage drop (< 0.05 V) for Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1).

    5

Unplug the sensor:the signal must swing to a known rail. Replace the sensor or repair the wiring based on the result.

    Mechanic's Tip

Always run a loaded voltage-drop test on the sensor ground with ignition ON. A drop above 0.1 V shifts the whole signal and tricks the module into setting sensor codes on a good sensor.
