Technical Description
The control module has detected a fault in the NOx Sensor Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 Sensor '1') (P2204). The fault is sporadic — usually a loose terminal, corrosion, or a chafed wire breaking contact under vibration or temperature change. Pertains to upstream oxygen sensor (pre-catalyst regulation sensor) governing real-time closed-loop air-fuel ratio.

Bank 1 specific:Inspect wiring harness to cylinder bank 1 (firewall/right bank, exposed to exhaust manifold heat).

Symptoms
Recommended Solution
Observe closed-loop sensor voltage switching at 2500 RPM (0.1–0.9 V at 1–3 Hz). Check STFT and LTFT fuel trims.
Cross-swap the component on Bank 1 with Bank 2 to rule out mechanical oil passages and internal timing wear.
Perform a loaded harness wiggle test while monitoring signal trace on a fast scan-tool graph or oscilloscope.
Verify loaded supply voltage and harness terminal pins at NOx Sensor Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 Sensor '1').
Check circuit continuity and ground-side voltage drop (< 0.05 V) for NOx Sensor Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 Sensor '1').
For wideband sensors:monitor pump current (mA) and lambda in scan Live Data during snap-throttle and decel fuel cut.
Mechanic's Tip
O2 sensors measure free oxygen, not fuel. An exhaust leak upstream of the sensor pulls in atmospheric air via venturi pulses, forcing false lean readings and causing the ECM to severely over-fuel.
