    P2728 - Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance

Related:Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance, Wiring harness and connectors, Control Module (ECM/PCM)

    System

    Powertrain (Engine & Gearbox)

    Technical Description

The control module has detected a fault in the Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance (P2728). The reported signal is electrically valid but disagrees with other operating parameters (RPM, load, or other sensors).

    Oscilloscope Waveform Analysis

    2 ms/div, 20 V/div
Capture the PWM control signal. The square wave must have clean edges, a stable frequency (typically 30 - 200 Hz), and a distinct flyback spike on every switch-off.

    Possible Causes

    1

Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance is electrically operational but performing outside calibrated tolerance

    2

Channel E:Verify dedicated wiring pins and signal pair for circuit E against the schematic.

    3

Chafed or pinched wiring harness along the signal path to Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance

    4

Internal mechanical wear or carbon deposits inside Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance

    5

Defective internal output driver or reference circuit in the control module for Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance

    Symptoms

    4
Signal plausibility mismatch between measured reading and ECU target model
    Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated
    Possible drivability or power reduction
Risk of failing an emissions inspection

    Recommended Solution

    1

Compare signal voltage and resistance between circuit E and companion circuit A at module connector.

    2

Log component live data across varying load points and verify plausibility against engine target model.

    3

Verify loaded supply voltage and harness terminal pins at Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance.

    4

Check circuit continuity and ground-side voltage drop (< 0.05 V) for Pressure Control Solenoid E Control Range/Performance.

    5

Check supply and the low-side driver at the ECM connector. Replace the actuator or repair the circuit based on the readings.

    Mechanic's Tip

Use the scan-tool output test with the scope on the control side at the same time. If duty changes but the actuator does not move, the valve is stuck — not the electrical fault you were chasing.
