Technical Description
P00AF is an OBD-II diagnostic trouble code indicating a performance issue within the Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control 'A' module circuit. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the position of the boost control actuator (typically an electronic VNT/VGT actuator or a solenoid). If the ECU detects that the actual position of the actuator does not match the commanded position within a calibrated timeframe, or if the feedback voltage is out of range, this code is stored. This often results in the vehicle entering a reduced power mode (Limp Mode) to prevent engine damage from overboost or excessive EGT.
Possible Causes
Sticking or seized turbocharger vanes (VNT mechanism)
Faulty electronic turbo actuator
Wiring harness damage or terminal corrosion at the actuator plug
Unusual: Vacuum leak (if controlled via vacuum solenoid/transducer)
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
