Technical Description
P011C is a rationality diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that triggers when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an implausible correlation between the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) temperature sensor. During a cold start (after a long engine-off period), the ECU compares these readings; they should be nearly identical to the ambient temperature. If the delta between the two sensors exceeds a calibrated threshold (typically 10-15°C), the ECU determines that one of the sensors is skewed or biased, leading to incorrect air density calculations for fuel trim and boost management.
Possible Causes
Faulty or contaminated Charge Air Cooler (CAC) temperature sensor
Faulty or contaminated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
High resistance or corrosion in sensor connectors
Engine Control Unit (ECU) software update required

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
