Technical Description
The ECU monitors the switching rate of the upstream O2 sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1). Code P014C is set when the sensor's transition time from a rich state (high voltage) to a lean state (low voltage) exceeds a predetermined temporal threshold. This 'lazy' sensor behavior prevents the fuel control system from maintaining an ideal stoichiometric ratio efficiently. This is often caused by sensor degradation, soot buildup on the sensor element, or contamination (silicone/coolant).
Possible Causes
Faulty or fouled Oxygen (O2) sensor
Exhaust leak upstream of or near the sensor
Sensor contamination (coolant or oil consumption)
Damaged wiring harness or poor electrical ground

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
