Technical Description
P0153 is an OBD-II generic code indicating that the Powertrain Control Model (PCM) has monitored the Bank 2, Sensor 1 oxygen sensor for a specific period and determined that the response rate (switching frequency/voltage transition time) is slower than the calibrated limit. The sensor is responsible for adjusting the air-fuel ratio by oscillating between lean and rich signals. A 'lazy' sensor cannot keep up with rapid changes in exhaust chemistry, leading to poor fuel trim management.
Possible Causes
Fouled or defective Oxygen Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1)
Exhaust leak upstream of or near the sensor
Wiring issues or high resistance in the sensor connector
Intake air leaks or faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
Improper fuel pressure or engine mechanical issues (oil/coolant burning)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
