P015B - O2 Sensor Delayed Response - Rich to Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Technical Description
The P015B code is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the upstream oxygen (O2) sensor on Bank 1 is reacting too slowly when switching from a rich to a lean air-fuel ratio. The ECU monitors the response time as the voltage drops from approximately 0.9V to 0.1V. If the switching time exceeds a specific threshold (measured in milliseconds during cruise or deceleration), the sensor is flagged as 'sluggish'. This affects the closed-loop fuel control and can lead to increased emissions and poor fuel economy.
Possible Causes
Faulty or contaminated Oxygen Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
Exhaust leak upstream of or near the sensor (introducing ambient oxygen)
Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor providing incorrect data
Wiring issues (high resistance in the circuit) or ECU software issues

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
