Technical Description
The P018A code is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an electrical malfunction or signal deviation in the Fuel Pressure Sensor 'B' circuit. Sensor 'B' monitors the pressure within the fuel rail or supply line. It typically operates on a 5V reference signal, outputting a variable voltage (usually 0.5V to 4.5V) back to the ECU. If the signal voltage exceeds or falls below the calibrated range for a predetermined period, the MIL is illuminated. This fault can lead to incorrect fuel trim adjustments and may trigger a limp-home mode to prevent engine damage from lean combustion conditions.
Possible Causes
Faulty Fuel Pressure Sensor B (internal electrical failure)
Damaged wiring harness or corrosion in the connector (high resistance)
Fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump issues causing actual pressure deviations
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) or software glitch

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
