Technical Description
P018B is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the signal from Fuel Pressure Sensor 'B' is out of the calibrated range or shows an implausible correlation with other engine sensors. The sensor provides feedback to the ECM to regulate fuel pump output or fuel rail pressure. The ECM monitors the voltage (typically 0.5V - 4.5V range). If the signal stays outside of its rational window for a predetermined period, the logic sets P018B. This impacts fuel trim calculations and engine load management.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel pressure sensor (internal resistance drift)
Corrosion or poor pin tension in the sensor connector
Wiring harness damage (insulation chafing causing intermittent short/open)
Fuel pump regulation issues or mechanical fuel system pressure drop

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
