Technical Description
P018E is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a signal voltage from fuel pressure sensor 'B' that exceeds the calibrated maximum threshold (typically above 4.8V on a 5V reference circuit). This sensor monitors the actual pressure within the fuel rail or line to modulate fuel pump output or regulator position. A 'High' code usually indicates an open circuit in the ground wire or a short to voltage in the signal wire. The system often enters 'Limp-home' mode to prevent engine damage from incorrect fueling or high-pressure spikes.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel pressure sensor (internal short)
Open circuit in the sensor ground wire (causes voltage to float high)
Corrosion or loose connection in the sensor connector pins
Signal wire shorted to 5V reference or 12V battery voltage
Internal ECM hardware failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
