Technical Description
P0199 is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an erratic or intermittent signal from the Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor. The EOT sensor is typically an NTC thermistor where resistance decreases as temperature increases. The ECU supplies a 5V reference and monitors the voltage drop. If the signal fluctuates rapidly or provides values that are physically impossible (e.g., jumping from 20°C to 120°C in milliseconds), the ECU flags a circuit malfunction. This data is critical for oil life monitoring, thermal management, and variable valve timing (VVT) strategies.
