Technical Description
P0207 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an electrical malfunction in the fuel injector control circuit for cylinder number 7. The ECM monitors the injector driver circuit by checking for specific voltage drops and current flow. When the injector is commanded 'ON', the ECM looks for the voltage to pull low; when commanded 'OFF', it expects an inductive kick-back voltage. If the circuit resistance is outside of specifications (open circuit or short), the fault code is triggered, affecting fuel delivery and combustion stoichiometry.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel injector for cylinder 7 (internal electrical failure)
Damaged wiring or corrosion in the injector connector
Loose connection or frayed wire between injector and ECU
Faulty injector driver within the Engine Control Module (ECM)
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness and connector for cylinder 7 injector. Look for corrosion, loose pins, or frayed insulation.
- Resistance Test: Unplug the injector and measure resistance (Ohms) across the terminals. Normal range is usually 10–16 Ohms (check OEM specs). If 'OL' or below 2 Ohms, the injector is faulty.
- Circuit Diagnosis: Verify 12V power supply at the connector with ignition on. Use a Noid light or oscilloscope to verify the ECM ground pulse while cranking.
- Replacement: If wiring is sound but the injector fails resistance or pulse tests, replace the injector. Clear codes and perform a road test.
Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
