Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0213 is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an electrical malfunction in the circuit for Cold Start Injector 1. This component focuses on enriching the fuel mixture during low-temperature cranking to ensure reliable ignition. The ECM monitors the circuit's resistance and voltage drop; if it detects an open circuit, high resistance, or a short circuit to ground/power, the code is stored. In many modern port or direct-injected vehicles, this relates specifically to the dedicated cold start enrichment valve or the injector driver circuit responsible for cold-start mapping.
Possible Causes
Faulty cold start injector (internal short or open circuit)
Damaged wiring or corrosion in the injector connector
Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor providing incorrect input
Internal Engine Control Unit (ECU) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
