Technical Description
P0222 is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) detects a voltage signal from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) 'B' or Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor 'B' that is below the calibrated limit, typically less than 0.2V. The system employs redundant sensors to ensure safety; if sensor 'B' signal drops too low, the PCM cannot verify the throttle plate's position accurately. This mismatch usually forces the vehicle into a 'Limp Home' mode to prevent unintended acceleration or engine damage.
Possible Causes
Faulty Throttle Body assembly or failed TPS sensor
Short to ground in the signal wire or an open circuit in the wiring harness
Corroded or damaged connector pins
Faulty Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
