Technical Description
P0227 is a generic diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that indicates the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a voltage signal from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor circuit 'C' that is below the specified range. Typically, this means the signal voltage has dropped below 0.2V to 0.5V. Modern vehicles use redundant sensors for safety; if one sensor circuit fails, the ECM limits engine power. The code often triggers a fail-safe or 'Limp Home' mode, disabling cruise control and restricting throttle opening to ensure vehicle safety.
Possible Causes
Faulty Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor or Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Short to ground in the signal circuit wiring
Open circuit in the 5V reference wire or connector corrosion
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
