Technical Description
P0232 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects high voltage on the fuel pump secondary circuit (the monitor circuit) when the pump is not commanded ON. The secondary circuit provides feedback to the ECM to confirm that voltage is reaching the pump. If the ECM registers battery voltage (B+) when the fuel pump relay should be de-energized, the code is stored. This typically indicates a short to voltage in the wiring harness or a fuel pump relay stuck in the closed position. This condition can affect the CAN-bus communication strategy for fuel management and may trigger a limp mode.
Possible Causes
Faulty or stuck fuel pump relay (welded contacts)
Short to voltage (B+) in the fuel pump supply or monitor wiring harness
Faulty Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) in PWM-regulated systems
Internal ECM/PCM failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
