Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0246 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an abnormally high voltage signal in the turbocharger wastegate solenoid 'A' circuit. This typically indicates a short to voltage (B+) condition. The solenoid is normally controlled by the ECM via Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) by switching the ground side. If the voltage feedback remains high when it should be low, the ECM flags a circuit malfunction. This prevents precise boost pressure control, often resulting in the vehicle entering limp mode to protect the engine from potential overboost conditions.
Possible Causes
Wiring harness shorted to voltage (B+) for the wastegate solenoid
Faulty wastegate control solenoid (internal electrical short)
Damaged connectors or corrosion causing voltage tracking
Internal ECM/ECU failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
