Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0247 is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an electrical problem in the Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid 'B' circuit. This solenoid manages the position of the wastegate to control boost pressure by bypassing exhaust gases. The ECM monitors duty cycle and circuit voltage; if it detects an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to voltage that falls outside factory specifications, P0247 is stored. This typically refers to the secondary turbocharger in twin-turbo configurations.
Possible Causes
Faulty wastegate solenoid B (internal short or open circuit)
Damaged wiring harness or corroded connectors affecting solenoid B
Vacuum line issues or leaks (if the solenoid operates a vacuum actuator)
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
