Technical Description
P026A is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the efficiency of the charge air cooler (intercooler) is below a pre-defined threshold. The ECM monitors the temperature drop across the intercooler using intake air temperature (IAT) sensors and compares it with ambient temperature and vehicle speed. In vehicles equipped with a liquid-to-air charge air cooler, this code often indicates a failure in the secondary cooling circuit, such as a localized coolant pump failure or low coolant levels.
Possible Causes
Faulty or seized electric charge air cooler coolant pump
Low coolant level in the secondary cooling system or air pockets
Obstructed charge air cooler (external debris or internal oil fouling)
Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor or CAN bus communication error with the pump module

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
