P026C - Fuel Injection Quantity Too Low

Technical Description
P026C is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the actual fuel injection quantity is lower than the commanded value. The ECU monitors this by correlating fuel rail pressure, injector pulse width, and feedback from O2 or NOx sensors. This indicates a restriction in the fuel system or a lack of fuel delivery capacity. To prevent engine damage from a lean condition (which raises combustion temperatures), the ECU may limit engine power (Limp mode).
Possible Causes
Clogged fuel filter or restriction in fuel lines
Faulty fuel rail pressure sensor (reporting inaccurately high pressure)
Worn high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failing to maintain flow
Fuel system leak (internal or external)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
