Technical Description
P0279 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a lower than expected voltage in the fuel injector control circuit for cylinder 7. This specifically points toward a circuit that is shorted to ground or an injector with excessively low internal resistance. The ECM monitors the 'pull-down' side of the injector circuit (the driver); if the current draw is too high due to low resistance, the ECM sets this code to prevent damage to the internal injector drivers. This fault will typically result in a dead misfire on the affected cylinder.
Possible Causes
Faulty fuel injector (internal short circuit)
Wiring harness rubbed through and shorted to ground
Corrosion or poor connection in the injector connector
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
