Technical Description
P0288 is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a lower than expected voltage in the control circuit for the fuel injector on cylinder 10. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground within the wiring harness or the injector solenoid itself. The ECM monitors the voltage drop across the injector driver; if the voltage remains near 0V when the driver should be high (open circuit potential), the fault code is triggered to protect the internal ECM circuitry from excessive current draw.
Possible Causes
Short to ground in the wiring harness between injector 10 and the ECM
Defective fuel injector (internal short in the solenoid coil)
Damaged connector with moisture or corrosion (current leakage)
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
