Technical Description
P02AB is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that cylinder number 9 has reached its maximum positive fuel trim limit. This means the ECU is attempting to compensate for an excessively lean condition in that specific cylinder by increasing the injector pulse width, but the correction has exceeded the calibrated threshold. On high-cylinder-count engines (V10/V12), this is often monitored via crankshaft speed fluctuations or cylinder-specific AFR sensors. Failure to correct this can lead to catalyst damage and increased NOx emissions due to high combustion temperatures.
Possible Causes
Clogged or faulty fuel injector for cylinder 9
Intake air leak (vacuum leak) specifically affecting cylinder 9
Faulty ignition coil or spark plug leading to incomplete combustion
Engine mechanical issue (low compression) or valvetrain problem on cylinder 9

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
