Technical Description
The P02BE code indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has reached its maximum adaptive limit for fuel trim on cylinder 9. The ECU is attempting to compensate for a lean condition by increasing the injector pulse width, but the correction has exceeded the calibrated threshold. Diagnostic monitoring is based on crankshaft speed fluctuations and O2 sensor feedback. If cylinder 9 fails to contribute the expected power despite enrichment, the code is triggered. This can lead to reduced engine power (Limp Mode) to prevent damage to the catalytic converter and engine components.
Possible Causes
Faulty or clogged fuel injector (cylinder 9)
Intake manifold leak or vacuum leak specific to cylinder 9 area
Faulty ignition coil or spark plug (causing incomplete combustion)
High resistance/corrosion in the injector electrical connector
Low engine compression on cylinder 9 (mechanical failure)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
