Technical Description
P02C2 is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has reached its maximum enrichment limit for Cylinder 11 fuel trim. This means the ECU is attempting to add fuel to compensate for a lean condition but has hit the software calibration ceiling. The fault indicates a cylinder-specific lean condition, typically detected by monitoring crankshaft rotational speed fluctuations (misfire detection logic) and exhaust gas oxygen content. This code is generally found on V12 or large industrial engines where 12 cylinders are present.
Possible Causes
Clogged or faulty fuel injector for cylinder 11
Intake manifold vacuum leak specifically affecting cylinder 11
Wiring issue or high resistance in the injector circuit
Faulty spark plug or ignition coil causing incomplete combustion
Mechanical engine problem (low compression) on cylinder 11
Symptoms
Recommended Solution
- Visual Inspection: Check for vacuum leaks near cylinder 11 intake runners using a smoke machine. Inspect injector connector for corrosion.
- Measurements: Check injector resistance (typically 12-16 Ohms). Use an oscilloscope to verify the injector pulse width and waveform.
- Advanced Diagnosis: Perform a fuel injector balance test using a scan tool to identify flow discrepancies.
- Component Replacement: Replace the fuel injector for cylinder 11 and clear adaptive fuel trim values in the ECU.
Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
