Technical Description
The P02C9 fault code is triggered when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an internal leak or fuel deviation in the fuel injector for cylinder 12. The ECU monitors fuel trim values and crankshaft acceleration post-ignition to determine if a cylinder is over-fueling. If the ECU must reduce the injector pulse width beyond a calibrated threshold (typically -25% to -30%) to maintain the correct air-fuel ratio, this code is stored. This usually indicates the injector is 'hanging open' or has a mechanical failure in its internal seat.
Possible Causes
Mechanical leak in cylinder 12 fuel injector (dripping injector)
Clogged or contaminated injector nozzle disrupting the spray pattern
Faulty fuel pressure regulator causing excessive system pressure
Wiring fault (short to ground on the control circuit keeping the injector open)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
