Technical Description
P02D5 is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has reached its maximum adaptive limit for fuel injector cylinder 5. The ECU monitors the crankshaft speed fluctuations to determine the contribution of each cylinder. To maintain engine balance and emission standards, the ECU adjusts the injector pulse width (offset learning). If the required adjustment exceeds the maximum calibrated threshold—meaning the injector is likely delivering too little fuel—this error code is triggered. This is common in common-rail diesel systems.
Possible Causes
Faulty or clogged fuel injector for cylinder 5
Incorrect IQA/IMA coding in the ECU following an injector replacement
High resistance in the wiring harness (connector oxidation)
Low engine compression on cylinder 5 affecting cylinder balance calculations

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
